BLUE TREE MEADOW

Perhaps this is one of the most poetic project I have ever done. We were asked to choose any wild place on the planet and do there something that we thought would improve it. We had to present a concept for the project. My choice was a Japanese forest at the foot of mount Fuji named Aokigahara, infamously known as the Suicide Forest. The name means “Blue Tree Meadow” or “Sea of Trees” in Japanese. The goal is to create an illustrated story about a building in a wild place. A wild place is any point on our planet that does not contain obvious signs of human activity and urbanization. The task is to generate an idea, a sketch.

A wild place is meant to lead to a situation of direct interaction with the landscape, ultimately declaring its presence in the place, as already an integral part of it, through the building. This statement reflects the cultural and historical traces of the territory, the attitude to modernity and its circumstances. I decided to build a lighthouse in the “sea” of threes. A lighthouse is a symbol of salvation and hope; it lights the way and shows the direction to those who are lost and wandering in the dark, serves like a guiding beacon. In the tower, there is an alarm button. When it is pressed, the light emanating from the lighthouse turns from white to red and the beam is directed upwards, sending a distress call. The lighthouse itself is also red, as this color contrasts most with the green forest that surrounds it. Thus, people would have a choice, an opportunity to change their minds, and the lighthouse becomes a salvation for lost wanderers.
