ANALOGIES OF SEVERITY
A story of harsh, isolated life told through a reflection on austere beauty, capturing different seasons, predominantly a winter’s spring in Solovki and juxtaposing landscapes, buildings, and people immersed in their daily routines. Shot on both film and digital cameras, the mostly black-and-white images float in space, inviting the viewer to look closely and engage in a dialogue with the work.
My co-author Daria Lukashevich and I made an attempt to juxtapose completely different worlds that found something similar in each other, thus enhancing the effect of perception. The search for coincidences in completely unexpected things made us look at the world around us in a new way.
